To create your movie or slideshow, you don’t need to set aside a whole lot of time to study complicated software. With Movavi Video Editor, you can create a quality short video clip in just 30 minutes. The instructions below describe the main steps in creating a movie or slideshow.Step 1. Add media files to the program
First, open the files you want to work with. To do this, click the Add Media Files button, locate the necessary photo, video, and audio files on your PC, and click Open. All the added files will appear on the Media tab.Place the video files and still photos on the Timeline. Drag them to the track with the film icon in the order you want them to appear in your movie. To change the order, just drag and drop the desired fragment to a new place on the track.
Step 2. Split video into parts, delete unwanted segments
To split your video into two parts, click the video clip you want to split on the timeline. Drag the red cursor to the point at which you want to split the video and click the Split clip into two parts button. To delete the unwanted segment, right-click on it and choose Delete from the context menu.
To trim the beginning or end of a video clip, click on it on the timeline. In the Preview Area, you’ll see a Seek slider with Left and Right markers. Use these markers to set the new beginning and end points for your clip. The changes will be applied automatically.
Step 3. Apply artistic effects to videos and photos
Click the Effects button to see the list of available effects. Click the desired effect and preview how it will look when applied to your video.
To apply the effect to a video clip of photo, just drag and drop the effect onto the appropriate fragment on the timeline.To delete an effect, right-click on the fragment and choose Applied Effects from the context menu. In the new window that appears, choose the effect you don’t want and then click the Delete button.
Step 4. Join fragments with smooth transitions
Click the Fades button to see the list of available transitions. Choose the transition you want, drag it to the timeline, and place it between the two clips or photos you want to transition between. To make the video appear and disappear smoothly, add fades to the beginning and end of your movie.
Step 5. Add titles to the beginning and end of the movie
To show the title and cast of your movie, use opening and closing credits. Click the Titles button, and you will see the list of ready-made title styles. Right-click the style you like and choose the Add to the Start of the Video Track or Add to the End of the Video Track option.
In the Settings panel that opens, type your text and set parameters like font, size and color, add shadows to letters, adjust animation, and other settings as desired.
To change the position of the text, drag the rectangular frame in the Preview Area to the required position.
Step 6. Overlay titles on video
Overlay text titles on video if you want to add comments to what’s happening on the screen. To do this, drag the red cursor to the point in your video where you want the text titles to start. On the Titles tab, right-click the desired title style and choose Add to the Title Track. Now enter your text, set the parameters and adjust the position as described above. To change the duration of the titles, just stretch them along the track by dragging the right border.
Step 7. Add an audio track to your movie
Go to the Media tab and drag your added audio file to the Audio Track on the timeline. It is likely that the length of the video and the audio tracks will differ in one of two ways:
The music is longer than the video. Click the audio file on the timeline, drag the red cursor to the end of the video track and click the Split clip into two parts button to cut out the excess part of the audio. Delete the unwanted audio fragment in the same way as you did with video clips.
The video is longer than the audio. “Loop” the music playback: add several copies of your audio file to the Audio Track by dragging it to the timeline as many times as needed, then cut the excess audio at the end.
To ensure the music dies away smoothly, use the fade out effect. Right-click the audio file on the timeline and choose the Fade in/out option from the context menu. In the window that opens, set the music fade-in and fade-out duration.
Step 8. Save your movie project
Don’t forget to save the movie project you’re working on. You may need the project later if you want to change something in your video or just save it in another format. To save the project, choose Save Project As... from the File menu. Specify the folder where you want to save the project file and enter the file name, then click Save.
Step 9. Export the finished video
Now your movie is ready for viewing. All you need to do is to save it in the most appropriate format. Click the Save Movie button and choose the desired export option. To save video for watching on your PC or mobile device, choose the appropriate preset for your chosen format or device in the new window and click Save. After the conversion is complete, the folder containing the finished video will open automatically. Now you can watch your video on any media player.
