Details of the Soccer World Cup
There are 48 matches in the first round and a further 16 matches in the knock-out stage. The fixture is available from the www.fifa.com/worldcup web site.Brazil (BRT) is 13 hours behind Melbourne (AEST) so games that take place in the early afternoon/evening in Brazil occur in Australia from 2:00am to 8:00am the following morning.
The 32 teams are drawn into eight groups of four (A-H) for the Group Round where each team will play each other team in their group once. These 48 matches take place over the period of 15 days. We have split the Group stage into 5 rounds.
